Growing Internships in MSP
An Economic Imperative
Internships are a proven pathway for launching talent into fulfilling careers. These time-tested experiences can help employers tap into rising talent, especially as historically low unemployed rates in MSP and across the country signal a new demographic reality. To continue to find top talent, employers will need to innovate and think long-term. One place to start is at the very beginning of new careers. While employers are competing over a limited pool of early-career talent, we can instead tap into new opportunities by expanding local internship opportunities. Our region can accelerate inclusive economic growth by becoming a hub for high-quality internships.
“Internships open the transformative doors of opportunity for students. Two-thirds of students nationally want to pursue an internship but due to various factors including insufficient or no pay, too few positions, lack of transportation, heavy course load, or lack of information about accessing internships, they are unable to complete one. Greater MSP’s commitment to make the MSP region a national internship hub will benefit students from all backgrounds and ultimately change the trajectory of the lives of these students, their families, and their communities.”
