GREATER MSP Partnership Releases 2025 Regional Indicators Dashboard, Calling for Bold Action to Accelerate Growth

Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN — The GREATER MSP Partnership unveiled the 2025 MSP Regional Indicators Dashboard, offering the latest analysis of the Minneapolis–St. Paul region’s economic performance compared to peer metros across the country. The Dashboard shows that the region is strong in many areas, and making encouraging progress on key measures of economic inclusion, but has begun to lag peer regions across the country in growth and innovation in recent years.

“The data tells us that without stronger growth and innovation in our economy, we will not be able to sustain or expand our prosperity in the years ahead,” said Peter Frosch, President and CEO of the GREATER MSP Partnership. “Our region has a bold strategy to drive a transformation in our economy that will ensure we generate the good jobs and tax revenue we need.  That work is in motion today and focused on competing and winning in global growth sectors like Med Tech, Ag Tech, Clean Tech and Digital Tech. In these areas, we are playing to win nationally and globally. But to succeed, we need more leaders and organizations to invest in these future-focused efforts.”

Now in its 10th year, the MSP Regional Indicators Dashboard provides a comparative view of the 15-county Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan statistical area (MSA). This year’s dashboard tracks 58 metrics and compares our performance to a peer group of 11 metros, which were carefully chosen based on similarities with the Minneapolis-Saint Paul region in economic and demographic characteristics - and because our region has often competed with these regions for new business investment and talent.

This year’s data shows the region continues ranks in the top quartile for measures of infrastructure and quality of life, but in the bottom quartile for measures of growth and innovation—underscoring the need for intentional strategies to drive competitiveness.

The GREATER MSP Partnership is activating the region’s strategy at scale with innovative, cross-sector coalitions aimed at creating solutions to global challenges. These efforts include MedTech 3.0, the Minnesota SAF Hub, MBOLD, and the MN CHIPS Coalition — efforts that are already attracting new investment and creating competitive advantages for the region.

“The Dashboard results we’re sharing today are a call to action for leaders across the state,” Frosch added. “It’s time to double-down on efforts to advance economic inclusion and rally around economic innovation and growth as a new, broadly-shared civic priority.  The future of our economy isn’t just a business issue, is an all-of-us issue. We are building a new opportunity economy in Minnesota —one grounded in our values, connected to the global economy, and competitive with our peers around the country. Winning will require a sense of urgency, a commitment to collaboration, and the willingness to think bigger than ever before.”
